I've got fifteen minutes before my baby daughter wakes, and each minute stretches out, rich and flavourful. The cup warms my cold hands gently, the aroma of coffee wrapping around me like a cozy scarf. My cats, a fluffy mass rising and falling with their breaths, have blended into one homogenous purring entity. Life is good, so good I almost want to whisper it.

I smile, tired but grateful, savouring the simplicity of coffee and the companionship of cats, these twin sources of joy and comfort. As mornings like these accumulate, each leaving behind a sense of healing, a quiet satisfaction, and the inevitable coffee stain on my sofa, an idea starts to percolate.
